It is not uncommon for trees to become huge, with a trunk circumference of 10 meters or more, and many of them are worshipped as sacred trees throughout Japan.

Camphor production has been active in Japan since ancient times. Camphor has been produced in Japan since ancient times, especially in Kyushu, where camphor trees grow naturally and the Saga Nabeshima clan encouraged the production of camphor.

Since the 1960s, synthetic camphor has been in widespread use, and the number of camphor factories has dwindled. However, camphor oil and camphorwood are now being reevaluated for their natural fragrance, comfort and safety.
