Hinoki essential oil has a refreshing woody scent familiar to Japanese people that stabilizes and relaxes the mood. It has excellent antibacterial, deodorizing, and insecticidal properties. It is a popular fragrance that combines the relaxing and refreshing effects of forest bathing.
Hinoki is found only in Japan and Taiwan, and is sometimes referred to as “Japanese Cypress” in Europe.
It is said that taking a bath with cypress essential oil in it has the same effect as taking a cypress bath.
It has also been used as a building material since ancient times, and the pagodas of Horyuji and Yakushiji temples were built using cypress. It has the world’s highest level of durability and preservation, and the 1,300-year-old cypress used in Horyuji Temple retains almost the same strength as when it was cut down. The 1,300 year old cypress used in Horyu-ji Temple is almost as strong as when it was cut down, and is famous among craftsmen who repair temples for saying, “Even after 1,300 years, the cypress still smells good and can be used.
